Christmas Lights Nail Art Tutorial

Hey everyone,
                       Welcome back and seasons greetings to all my viewers. Today, I have another Christmas tutorial to share; it is inspired by the lights we string every year around the tree. For this design you will need a couple of different colours as well as a nail art brush. Also, be sure to start off with a base coat before applying polish to protect your natural nails. Let’s get on to the tutorial!



Step one: Paint all nails in a white polish.

Step two: Across each nail create curved lines and loops (this will represent the natural way in which the cord tangles) using a thin nail brush and black polish.

Step three: Next, along each curved line create very small oval shapes in different colours to act as the actual lights (three to four 'lights' per nail). This can be done in the direction shown in the photo or beneath the line. 

Step four: Clean up around your nails to remove any polish from the skin and add your preferred clear top coat to smooth out design and add shine.

Tuxedo Nail Art Tutorial

                       Welcome back to my page and another edition of my simple nail art tutorials. I hope all is well in your lives, and even if you're going through a difficult time remember that storms pass but the sun will shine again. Today, I have a sweet yet daring (kinda lol) tuxedo nail art design to share with you all. Personally, I love the professional, classic look a tuxedo/ suit gives and it inspired me to create this design. In addition to the polishes used you will need a thin nail art brush and a dotting tool or toothpick. Also, be sure to start off with a base coat before applying polish to protect your natural nails. Let’s get on to the tutorial!



Step one: Firstly, begin by painting three nails in black and two in white like shown below.

Step two: Next using a black polish, swipe your polish brush diagonally from left to right across the nail. Repeat this step to create another diagonal line however, going from right to left. You should end up with a 'V' shape. 

Step three: In the white area of the design place three dots reasonably spaced directly above the tip of the 'V'. Also, make an 'X' close to the cuticle of the nail.

Step four: Connect the edges of the 'X' shape and fill in the space with black polish like shown below. This will represent the bow tie.

Step five: Across the edges of the 'V' shape create zig-zag lines using a white polish and a thin nail art brush. This will represent the collar and edges of the tuxedo jacket. 

Step six: Clean up around your nails to remove any polish from the skin and add your preferred top coat to smooth out design and add shine.

** On my nails in black I decided to add a few spots and on my ring finger I did a straight tie. However, you can mix and match or do the tuxedo design highlighted on all nails.

Nail Polish Dupes (Similar Nail Polish Shades)

                       Welcome! To all my existing and new readers, I do hope all is well in your lives. Every so often I go through my nail polish collection to get rid of the old ones and really remind myself of what I have as its easy to forget when you have a big collection lol. While sifting through I realised how many colours I have that are extremely similar to each other, which encouraged me to do this post. This can be helpful to polish lovers that have been searching for shades that have either been discontinued or are not available in the area where they reside. Anyway, enough chatter lets get onto the polish and have a closer look inside my collection :).

1. OPI- Pinking of You; Milani- Strawberry Shake

Gorgeous milky pink shades that are almost exact however, strawberry shake is a bit brighter.

2. Essie- Hide and Go Chic; Maybelline Color Show- Denim Dash

These two polishes are identical shades of medium blue, the only difference is that Denim Dash dries matte which can be easily fixed by adding a top coat.

3. Essie- Mint Candy Apple; Color Club- Factory Girl

Two of my favourite pastel blues which are very similar however, Factory Girl is a shade brighter.

4. Essie- Lilacism; Sinful Colors- Candy Coated

This pair can be described as pastel purple shades, they are extremely similar especially in the bottle. However, Candy Coated is more blue toned. 

5. Orly- Highlight; China Glaze- Pelican Grey

I always wear grey polish when I want something understated and professional and I didn't realise how close these two were in colour. However, Highlight has a strong beige undertone. 

6. Orly- Gumdrop; China Glaze- For Audrey

After swatching these two I couldn't believe that they were practically the same shade. For Audrey is a well loved colour in the world of polish so finding this dead on dupe was shocking.

7. Sally Hansen- Vanity Flair; Colormates- Myrtle Beach Purple

This is another pair that are exact dupes for each other. Both are medium, toned purple hues.

8. Rimmel London- Stormy Skies; Essie- Vested Interest

These both have a dusty teal quality to them. However, Stormy skies is more blue toned while Vested interest leans more green. 

9. China Glaze- Electric Pineapple; Sally Hansen- Green with Envy

You can definitely see the difference between this pair however, they share the similarity of having both yellow and green undertones. 

10. OPI- Visions of Love; Essie- Wicked

These are definite dupes for each other and can be described as dark 'ox blood'/ burgundy shades. They both have a tendency to appear black but with the right amount of sunlight both truly stand out.

Bridal Nail Art Looks (Wedding Nail Art)

                       I hope you all are having a great weekend. Today, I have an exciting post to share and because of my interest in weddings, I've been yearning to do this for a while now . This blog post features both tradition and contemporary manicures suitable for brides on their wedding day. Don't get me wrong I think a bride should wear whatever colour/ design that complements their personal style however, these are just a few options I personally like and came up with.  Let’s get on to the manicures enjoy !



Manicure #1: Traditional French Manicure
This popular trend dates back to the 18th century and is noted for its clean and classic look. The manicure can simply be achieved by using a sheer polish as the base colour and swiping a brush dipped white polish across the tip of the nail.

Manicure #2: Something Blue

We all know the saying ' Something old, borrowed and blue' and with this look brides can cross something blue off that list. This manicure can be achieved using a light blue polish and a lace design stamp at the tip of the nail to really soften the look. 

Manicure #3: Glitter and Glam

For all those ladies who want something that will really stand out on their nails this is the perfect manicure. In addition, for persons with more simple gowns this can help to add something extra to their look. To achieve this manicure, use a pastel pink as the base and dab some sliver, glitter polish to the tip of the nail. 

Manicure #4: Nude Manicure

A nude nail polish can be an option instead of just going bare on your wedding day. This look really elongates fingers and gives a clean, natural appearance. Some options are as follows in the photos.

For the ladies who are not interested in wearing nail polish, one coat of a sheer polish will to the trick to add some colour to your look.

Februrary Manicures (2015)

Plaid Inspired Nail Art Tutorial

Hey everyone,
                        I hope you all are doing well :). Its been a while since I've uploaded a tutorial so today I have a simple plaid design to share. For this tutorial you will need a thin nail art brush in addition to your polishes. Also, be sure to start off with a base coat to protect your natural nails. Let’s get on to the tutorial!



Step one: I began by painting three of my nails white and two in dark purple. (The plaid design will be on the nails painted in purple)

Step two: Next, using a light purple polish make two thick vertical lines along the nail. This can be done using the actual nail polish brush.

Step three: Make two thick horizontal lines over the lines previously made in step two.

Step four: In the areas where the vertical and horizontal lines meet, create black squares.

Step five: Next, using a thin nail art brush and yellow polish create thin vertical and horizontal lines over the black squares and light purple sections.

Step six: Clean up around your nails to remove any polish from the skin and add your preferred top coat to smooth out design and add shine. 

*As you can see on the nails polished in white I drew a couple of stripes.

Sinful Colors- Candy coated

Top coat- Seche vite fast drying top coat
